It’s a new year and in business that means new clients. Clients who are seeking you out, ready to do business and looking to spend money. So, read on to find out why you need a new headshot in 2017.
In the modern day, when people are looking to spend money, often the first thing they do is visit the website of the person that they are thinking of dealing with and have a look around. I certainly do. When people land on your website and see your headshot, have you considered what it actually says about you? The questions below are all based on thoughts I’ve had over the years, while looking at the websites of business people.
Is your headshot up to date? Imagine if a potential client looks at your headshot and then when they actually meet you, you look different because the image you used was from several years ago. If you can’t keep up to date with your headshot, can you keep up to date in business?
Do you look friendly and approachable? There are many businesses out there, all offering very similar services. If you don’t look approachable, do you think your potential client is going to pick up the phone and call you?
Is your headshot professional? There is nothing wrong with showing your personality and there is nothing wrong with having fun. However, you shouldn’t use an image from the office Christmas party or last years’ summer holiday as your professional headshot (yes I’ve seen both). It really doesn’t give a great first impression.
Does your current headshot reflect your current role? If you used to work for a company but you now work for yourself, does your headshot reflect your current role? If you are in a new or different business, shouldn’t you make sure your headshot reflects that?
Of course, while all the above applies to websites, it can just as easily be applied to the image that you send out with your CV, use on your LinkedIn profile or put on your business card.
